Psychiatric Medication Management

Psychiatric evaluation and medication care for adolescents and adults, provided by our board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Psychiatric medication management is care for the medical side of mental health. It begins with a thorough psychiatric evaluation, and continues as ongoing review of how a medication is working, what it is doing to the rest of your health, and whether it still fits the life you are living.

This service is provided by Shayla Buckler, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 20 years of experience across clinical practice, healthcare leadership, and nursing education.

Medication is one part of care, not the whole of it. At The Trinity it sits alongside therapy, family support, and holistic wellness, so the people involved in your care are working from the same picture.

How We Approach It

Dr. Buckler works from a holistic, trauma-informed approach. Physical and mental health are treated as connected rather than separate, and a treatment plan is built around your history, your goals, and what you want your daily life to look like — not around a diagnosis alone.

Care is collaborative. With your consent, she works closely with your therapist, your primary care provider, and other professionals involved in your treatment, so decisions about medication are made with the full picture in view.

Appointments are a conversation. You are told what a medication is for, what to watch for, and what the alternatives are, and nothing is started or changed without you understanding why.

Medication response varies from person to person. No outcome is promised, and finding what works is usually a process of careful review over time rather than a single decision.

Getting Started

Your first appointment is a full psychiatric evaluation: your history, your current symptoms, what you have tried before, your medical background, and what you are hoping for. From there, you and Dr. Buckler decide together whether medication has a place in your care, and follow-up visits are scheduled to review how things are going.

If you are already working with a therapist at The Trinity, this service can run alongside that work. If you are not, we can help you find the right fit.
